PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

Chimney Sweep & Cap Replacement in Garland

A Club Hill fireplace that hadn’t been swept in over a decade — heavy creosote in the flue and a cap so rusted it had let rain (and one bird’s nest) straight in.

How the job went

Every project, the same way — look, show, fix, prove.

01

The call

Water in the firebox after every storm, and a smoke smell that lingered days after each fire. The owners assumed the chimney just “did that.”

02

What the camera found

The camera found heavy creosote glazing the upper third of the flue, nesting debris on the smoke shelf, and a cap rusted through at the base — the rain and the birds had an open door.

03

The work

Full-height rotary sweep with sealed-vacuum dust containment, smoke shelf cleared, and a new stainless cap fitted and sealed at the crown — photographed from the roof so the owners could see work they’d never climb to check.

04

The result

A dry firebox through the next storm, clean draw on the first fire of the season, and a cap that will outlive the roof.

Rated 5 out of 5
Water had been getting in for years and every company before them wanted to rebuild the whole chimney. Warrior swept it, showed me the photos, and fixed the actual problem — the cap. Honest people.

Questions about this job

What homeowners ask when they see a project like this one — answered straight.

How often should a chimney be swept?

Inspect yearly, sweep when the buildup calls for it — for regular burners that’s every 1–2 seasons. This one had gone over a decade, which is exactly how caps and leaks go unnoticed.

It’s an open door at the top of your house — rain, birds, and debris go straight down the flue. It’s also the cheapest part of the system to fix, which makes skipping it a bad trade.

No — and that’s the point of inspecting before repairing. The masonry was sound; the cap was the entry point. One visit, one honest fix.

Always — you see the cap, crown, and flashing up close without leaving the ground. It’s work you’d otherwise never be able to check.

Yes — most repairs, like this cap, happen right after the sweep and inspection while we’re already up there.
