The call

During a summer heatwave, an algae-clogged condensate line let the drain pan overflow into the dark insulation of the main supply plenum. Even after a plumber cleared the drain, the warm, damp conditions inside the ducts bred rapid biological growth, and a stale dirty-sock smell spread through the house whenever the AC ran.

What the camera found

When water soaks a fiberglass-lined plenum or pools in the low spots of flexible duct, airflow alone will not dry it out. The damp dust layer becomes food for mold and mildew, and the system starts pushing microscopic spores and odors into the air the family breathes.

The work

We used thermal imaging and a duct camera to pinpoint where moisture had pooled and how far the growth had spread. Our crew removed the wet, contaminated fiberglass from the plenum and replaced it with clean, moisture-resistant closed-cell lining, then cleared the organic film from the main lines with low-pressure extraction and non-abrasive wipers. We deep-cleaned the evaporator coil with a self-rinsing cleaner, then fogged an EPA-registered, plant-based antimicrobial through the whole duct network on the low fan setting so it reached every bend and neutralized spores without leaving harsh residue.

The result

The musty odor was eliminated at its source instead of covered up, a follow-up camera pass confirmed clean and dry duct surfaces throughout, and the underlying growth risk was resolved, giving the family fresh, healthy indoor air.
