But heat cycles crack that brick and crumble the mortar over time, and once there are gaps, heat and embers can reach the combustible framing behind the masonry. That’s the quiet way a fireplace becomes a fire hazard.
Repair closes those gaps. We replace cracked firebrick, repoint the joints with refractory mortar, and make the firebox sound again. Damage like this often turns up during a fireplace cleaning or a chimney inspection, which is the best time to catch it, before the next fire makes it worse.

No. Ordinary mortar isn’t built for firebox heat and it breaks down fast, sometimes making things worse. A firebox needs refractory mortar and heat-rated firebrick, which is what we use.
The firebox is the chamber where the fire sits; the chimney is the flue above. We inspect both and tell you where the damage actually is, so you fix the right thing.
Most take two to four hours depending on how much brick and mortar are involved. If materials need to cure before you burn, we tell you how long to wait.
Small stuff sometimes can; gaps that reach the framing shouldn’t. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s safe to burn as-is or worth handling before the next fire, and we won’t oversell it.
